The New Years Resolution You Can Start Today and Be 100% Successful At Tomorrow
--
New Year’s Resolutions! Tough to make but easy to break.
People break New Year’s Resolutions so often that, as I’m sure you know, there’s a common joke about how quickly people give up on them. According to a study from Best Life, 45% of participants couldn’t even keep their resolutions for the month of January.
What are some of the keys of creating goals that you can actually follow through on? Consider these qualities in your goal:
1. Make sure the goal is concrete
If your goal is vague, your actions and therefore results will be vague. Make sure you give quantitative boundaries to your goal to maximize success.
2. Accept that slip-ups will happen
We are human after all. Just because you miss your goal a few times doesn’t mean you should quit altogether!
3. Treat yo’ self!
Been hitting your goal for a while? That’s awesome! Positive reenforcement will help you maintain your goal moving forward.
4. Everything is easier with a friend
Any task is easier knowing that you’re not in on it alone. Make a pact with a buddy to commit to your goals. Being able to talk to someone about the ups and downs is sure to keep you on track.
Question: So, what is a meaningful goal that is simple to maintain, will improve your life, and falls within these 4 qualities?
Answer: Self accountability
Make yourself accountable for something important!
Self accountability is a pretty broad topic, so how you define it is up to you. For some, it could be as simple as never cancelling plans with friends or cooking a healthy meal at least 3 times per week. For me, it means putting my mental health first. Using the 4 qualities above to further define my goal — making my goal concrete means choosing a specific mental health goal.
