For many people around the globe, alcohol is the most dangerous product we put into our bodies on a regular basis. Although alcohol relaxes us and has no doubt led to many fun and social nights, we are all aware of the short-term side effects that it causes — including but not limited to a head-splitting migraine and a ruined Sunday.

But what about the long-term effects of alcohol? According to SubstanceAbuse.org, studies have proven the following consequences:

Increased cancer risk

Brain damage

Diabetes

Cardiovascular diseases

…and so much more

If alcohol causes so many short and long-term issues, why do so many people choose to continue consuming it? In my opinion, it’s because drinking is so mainstream that nearly all social events and public venues are centered around the bad habit.

Think about the last wedding you went to. Was there a mad dash to the bar once it opened? Consider the last time you went out with your friends. Did you go to a restaurant where their irresistible cocktails were front and center on the menu, followed by a bar where IPAs, espresso martinis, and tequila sodas were the only drinks in sight?
